Tony Tan Lay Thiam

Not to be confused with Tony Tan Keng Yam, the 7th President of Singapore.

Tony Tan Lay Thiam (Chinese: 陈礼添; pinyin: Chén Lǐtián; born 1970, in Singapore) is a member of the National Solidarity Party.

Biography

• Attended Victoria Junior College
• Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Merit Scholarship to read Engineering at Cambridge University
• Graduated at age 23^[1] with 1st class honours^[2]
• Promoted to rank of major in the SAF at 27
• Concluded 9 years of work in the civil service at 31

In 1999, he joined Smartlab Education Centre Pte Ltd.^[3]

Political career

Tony Tan was one of the six members of the Reform Party slated to represent them in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for 2011. However, he and other members resigned from the Reform Party in February 2011. Differences of opinion were cited as the cause for the resignation.^[4] Following his resignation, he joined the NSP for whom he contested Chua Chu Kang GRC as part of a 5-person team.^[5]

Personal life

Tan is married to Hazel Poa and has two adopted sons.^[6]
